A week on the SX-250: a care assistant’s round in Warwickshire

A one-week trial, Warwickshire, 30 October – 6 November 2023. Sukhpreet is a care assistant who relies on public transport, having no British driving licence. Originally from India, she was unfamiliar with cycling and with UK road conditions.

The challenge

Depending on buses meant scheduling uncertainty, restricted mobility and longer commutes, with knock-on effects on work–life balance — and on her ability to deliver timely care.

Results

• Time saved. A 45-minute bus journey became a 20-minute ride, and the reclaimed time went into client visits.
• Less rush. Riding gave her a sense of control, and she arrived at appointments prepared rather than harried.
• Lower emissions. Zero-emission travel in place of the bus leg.
