Commuting on an e-bike: your questions

What does it cost to run?
About 17p a charge, off-peak, which is under half a penny a mile. At 5,000 miles a year that is about £19, charging off-peak. There is no road tax, no compulsory insurance and no MOT.
Is it cheaper than running a car?
On running costs, yes. A 40 mpg car at 5,000 miles a year costs about £1,739 to keep on the road (fuel £918, insurance £566, road tax £200, MOT £55), against about £19 a year to charge the SX-250 off-peak. Servicing, tyres and depreciation are not included for either. The sources are under the chart.
How far can I go on one charge?
40–50 miles (64–80 km), depending on conditions. A full charge takes 6–7 hours, so you can plug it in overnight.
Do I need a licence, tax or insurance?
No. There is no licence, road tax, compulsory insurance, MOT or CBT for an electrically assisted pedal cycle. Riders must be 14 or over. Our UK e-bike law guide has the detail.
Will it get stolen?
No bike is theft-proof. The SX-250 has an alarm, an immobiliser and keyless go as standard, and comes with two keys. Lock it up as you would any bike.
What does the warranty cover?
1 year / 5,000 miles (8,000 km). Terms apply: for example, labour is capped at £75 and wear items are excluded. See the Owner’s Manual.

How long does delivery take?
Delivery is free anywhere in Great Britain and usually arrives within 14 days. A trained Eskuta driver brings your SX-250 built and checked, and demonstrates it at your door.
