Is it legal?

Three things make it legal.

Because the SX-250 meets the EAPC rules, UK law treats it as a pedal cycle rather than a moped or motorbike. It is built to the UK EAPC regulations (SI 1983/1168 as amended by SI 2015/24).

  1. 250 W Motor power is 250 watts maximum continuous.
  2. Assist stops at 15.5 mph The motor cuts out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). You can pedal faster than that on your own.
  3. You pedal Above walking pace, the motor only helps while the pedals turn.

What that means for you: no licence, tax, insurance or MOT. Riders must be 14 or over. Ride anywhere pedal bikes are allowed, but not on pavements.

Selected owner reviews

Amazing service. Ordered and delivered within 7/8 days. Fast delivery and perfect tutorial on how to use the features by the delivery guy. I believe it was Nick, I might be wrong, but he was a legend in updating me with timing of delivery to showing me all the main features and a test ride.

From the moment I got my bike, I’ve been obsessed — smooth ride, stylish design, and super reliable. Whether I’m commuting or just cruising, it turns heads and makes every trip feel effortless. … Massive shoutout to Ruth, Kayleigh and Josh for their top-tier service. They went above and beyond to make everything seamless. It’s rare to find a team that treats you like more than just a customer.

Road legal questions, answered

Do I need a licence to ride the SX-250?
No. It is an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC), which UK law treats as a bicycle. No driving licence, no CBT.
Do I need to tax, insure or MOT it?
No. There is no road tax, no compulsory insurance and no MOT for an EAPC. You can insure against theft if you want to, which is a separate decision.
How old do I have to be to ride it?
14 or over. That is the legal minimum age to ride an EAPC in the UK.
Where can I ride it?
Roads, cycle lanes and cycle paths, anywhere pedal bikes are allowed. Not on pavements. Our UK e-bike law guide covers the detail.
Is it a bicycle or a moped?
Legally it is a bicycle. You pedal, and the motor assists up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h) before it cuts out. The motor is 250 W, and above walking pace it only helps while the pedals turn. It is built to the UK EAPC regulations (SI 1983/1168 as amended by SI 2015/24).
How much is delivery, and how long does it take?
Delivery is free anywhere in Great Britain and is usually within 14 days. A trained Eskuta driver brings your SX-250 built and checked, and demonstrates it at your door.
